What Is a Short Tail Keyword?
A short tail keyword is a keyword phrase that includes 1 or 2 words. Short tail keywords have the highest search volume, the most competition for search engine optimization and pay-per-click advertising, and the lowest conversion rates.
Short tail keywords do not have a specific user search intent, making them hard to target for search engine optimization and conversions because the intent of the searcher is ambiguous. Google, Yahoo, and Bing typically display a mix of results in the search engine results pages (SERPs) for short tail keyword searches.
Examples of short tail keywords include:
- dogs
- cat food
- restaurant
- marine biology
- online classes
