What Is Keyword Prominence?
Keyword prominence is an SEO practice that uses a target keyword in prominent locations on a web page to send a strong signal to search engine algorithms about what keywords the page should rank for in the search engine results pages (SERPS).
Keyword prominence is important for search engine optimization because it is a confirmed ranking factor for Google’s search engine. Keywords that are added to prominent locations in the HTML code and are placed toward the beginning of those elements increase the relevancy signals for on-page SEO.
Keyword prominence can be improved for a web page by optimizing these HTML elements for primary and secondary keywords:
- Meta Title Tag
- Meta Description
- H1 Header
- H2 and H3 Headings
- The first sentence in the body content
- Image ALT text
- Structured Data
