Monthly Performance Reports for 2023
January 2023
Ezoic Premium Fee: $0 (See July 2022 notes)
Average EPMV: $38.89 (+43.08%)

Notes for January:
- The average EPMV for the site is trending upward even though the Ezoic Ad Revenue Index looks flat for the past 2 months. Several changes were made on the site that are helping boost revenue as explained below.
- The ad refresh rate from last month seems to be helping improve EMPV.
- Ezoic added a new type of ad unit called Side Rails. These ads show up on desktop devices as sticky ads on the left and right sides of the page for screen sizes above 1,600 pixels. You can turn on both ad positions or just one. I tested both ad placements for 2 weeks and decided to only keep the right Side Rail ad because the left one made the site look too ad-heavy.
- The average RPM for the right Side Rail ad was $9.76.
- My publisher success manager disabled AI placeholders and native ad units because they were populating in strange places on the site.
- The RevOps team made some adjustments to the placeholders on the desktop version of the site.
- The highest EPMV was $52.96 on January 26, 2023.
February 2023
Ezoic Premium Fee: $0 (See July 2022 notes)
Average EPMV: $33.21 (-14.60%)

Notes for February:
- The average EPMV for the site trended downward throughout the entire month even though the Ezoic Ad Revenue Index showed an increase in online ad rates from a starting index value of 43 rising to 51 around the middle of the month. The index value then started to decrease to around 40 by the end of the month.
- The highest EPMV was $42.91 on February 1, 2023.
- Traffic declined throughout the entire month which may be part of the reason why the average EPMV is also decreasing. The site had a decrease of -21.74% in user sessions compared to January 2023.
- I noticed the average EPMV for the homepage was low (around $16). Upon further inspection, I discovered ads were not displaying in the main body content. I also had the page set to full-width without a sidebar. On February 28, 2023, I changed the homepage layout to include a sidebar and added placeholders to the body content. The EPMV for the homepage for that day was $25.80. Hopefully, the EPMV will continue to increase through March.
- I also inspected some of my worst-performing pages for speed and made a variety of changes on the site to help improve Core Web Vitals. This included removing unnecessary plugins, Google fonts, and javascript and adjusting the optimization settings in LEAP. Sitewide Core Web Vital scores increased throughout the month and I expect to have a better overall score in March. Hopefully, those changes contribute to higher EPMVs and earnings.
March 2023
Ezoic Premium Fee: $0 (See July 2022 notes)
Average EPMV: $24.49 (-26.25%)

Notes for March:
- The highest EPMV was $39.94 on March 26, 2023.
- The site speed changes and updates made in February did not make a positive impact on the EPMVs.
- The average EPMV throughout the month mirrors the Ezoic Ad Revenue Index. Especially, the sharp decline between March 28 to March 31, 2023.
- Traffic was down compared to February, with a decrease of -5.78% in user sessions but only a -2.06% decline in total pageviews.
- At the beginning of March, I had a meeting with my Publish Success Manager. She noticed some areas for improvement, including adding more ad sizes in the content (they were restricted to only 300-pixel width ad sizes), turning the left side rail ads back on, and testing individual videos on relevant pages to increase engaged time per visitor.
- I also made some website design changes to encourage visitors to stay on the website longer, view more pages, and subscribe to my email list. Those changes included adding the blog categories and a subscribe button to the top (main) navigation menu, and inserting a list of related posts at the bottom of each page.
April 2023
Ezoic Premium Fee: $0 (See July 2022 notes)
Average EPMV: $22.16 (-9.51%)

Notes for April:
- The highest EPMV was $29.90 on April 16, 2023.
- The average EPMV for this month is not mirroring the Ezoic Ad Revenue Index. The Index shows relative online ad rates increasing slightly from 37 (beginning of the month) to 40 (end of the month).
- Google Analytics shows the following data when comparing April 1-30 against the previous 30 days (March 2-31):
- Increase of 0.12% in user sessions.
- Decrease of -2.33% in total pageviews.
- Ezoic’s Big Data Analytics shows the following data comparing April 1-30 against the previous 30 days (March 2-31):
- Increase of 18.13% of visitors from India. (Top traffic audience.)
- Decrease of -21.76% EPMV from India traffic.
- Decrease of -3.30% of visitors from the United States. (Second most traffic audience.)
- Increase of 8.43% EPMV from United States traffic.
- Most every other traffic location’s pageviews and EPMVs decreased month over month.
- Increase of 18.42% in video revenue.
- Increase of 7.69% in video playbacks.
- Overall, it seems like the average EPMV is being dragged down by the large increase in traffic from India which is experiencing a decrease in its EPMV value. However, news reports indicate that India’s economy is projected to grow between 6.0%–6.5% in FY 2023–24. If that projection is accurate, then hopefully, it will boost the earnings on the site over the next few months because there’s a growing number of visitors from India.
May 2023
Ezoic Premium Fee: $0 (See July 2022 notes)
Average EPMV: $20.16 (-9.02%)

Notes for May:
- The highest EPMV was $26.43 on May 7, 2023.
- Since January 2023, the average EPMV had dropped -48.16%.
- The Ezoic Ad Revenue Index shows an upward trend in online ad rates during the last half of the month. Rates started out in May around 33-35 and ended the month around 40, with May 31 reporting 47. The site’s earnings are not mirroring that trend.
- Google Analytics shows the following data when comparing May 1-31 against the previous 30 days (March 31 to April 30):
- Decrease of -0.21% in user sessions.
- Decrease of -1.04% in total pageviews.
- Ezoic’s Big Data Analytics shows the following data comparing April 1-30 against the previous 30 days (March 31 to April 30):
- Decrease of -18.58% of visitors from India. (Top traffic audience.)
- Decrease of -27.51% EPMV from India traffic.
- Increase of 1.07% of visitors from the United States. (Second most traffic audience.)
- Decrease of -5.52% EPMV from United States traffic.
- Most every other traffic location’s visits and pageviews increased while the EPMV decreased month over month.
- Average EPMV for all traffic locations is down -8.64% month over month.
- Decrease of -5.06% in video revenue.
- Increase of -0.23% in video playbacks.
- I’m surprised the average EPMV is going down for all countries even though the Ezoic Ad Revenue Index shows online ad rates increasing. Hopefully, the average EPMV across all countries will increase next month (June) to reflect the Ad Revenue Index.
Monthly Performance Reports for 2022
January 2022
Average EPMV: $23.98 (+9.24%)

Notes for January:
- I was invited to join the Ezoic Premium program to access ads from higher-paying advertisers. The 14-day free trial started on January 25, 2022 and ends on February 7, 2022. Based on the current monthly ad revenue, the cost for the Ezoic Premium program is $144 per month which will open up access for Premium Ad Partners to display ads on the site. For more details, see my complete Ezoic Premium Review here.
February 2022
Ezoic Premium Fee: $144
Average EPMV: $29.05 (+21.14%)

Notes for February:
- I booked an Ezoic site review (a benefit of being a Premium member) to uncover more ways to optimize ad income. The representative gave me ideas on how to increase earnings by adjusting ad placements and refining the content strategy based on information available in different reports in Ezoic’s Big Data Analytics.
March 2022
Ezoic Premium Fee: $144
Average EPMV: $27.94 (-3.82%)

Notes for March:
- Average EPMV decreased slightly. I attribute it to low website traffic on the weekends.
April 2022
Ezoic Premium Fee: $144
Average EPMV: $31.74 (+13.60%)

Notes for April:
- Average EPMV bounced back a bit higher than March 2022.
- Seeing some high spikes in daily EPMV. The highest EPMV was $39.39 on April 20, 2022.
- The website was eligible for the next Ezoic Premium plan level. Upgraded it on April 30 to $288 per month. This should boost revenue from Premium Ad Partners starting in May and should experience a higher average EPMV. See my complete Ezoic Premium Review here for more details about the program.
May 2022
Ezoic Premium Fee: $288
Average EPMV: $43.50 (+37.05%)

Notes for May:
- Experiencing a higher average EPMV. I attribute this to seasonality and upgrading to the next Ezoic Premium plan level at $288 per month. See my complete Ezoic Premium Review here for more details about the program.
June 2022
Ezoic Premium Fee: $575
Average EPMV: $62.77 (+44.29%)

Notes for June:
- The website was eligible for the next Ezoic Premium plan level. Upgraded it on June 14 to $575 per month. See my complete Ezoic Premium Review here for more details about the program.
- EPMVs are averaging about the same throughout the month even though I am on the higher Ezoic Premium level.
- The highest EPMV was $73.55 on June 22, 2022.
July 2022
Ezoic Premium Fee: $0 (I joined the Accelerator Premium Program which gives me 1 year of Premium for free in exchange for a commitment to Ezoic’s platform for a set period of time. That means I will not switch to another advertising platform like Mediavine or AdThrive. I will start paying for Premium again on July 7, 2023.)
Average EPMV: $52.07 (-17.04%)

Notes for July:
- I attribute the average EPMV decrease to the overall drop in advertising spending. According to the Ezoic Ad Revenue Index, the relative online ads rates were around 51 in June and 46 in July, 2022 for the United States. August may not show much improvement based on the previous year’s data, so I may need to wait until September or October when advertising spending increases to see an improvement in the average EPMV rate.
- The highest EPMV was $65.05 on July 12, 2022.
- I started experimenting with removing the lowest-paying ad placeholders and restricting the ad sizes to only the highest-paying versions based on EPMV. Ezoic’s AI should do this automatically, but I am testing this to find out if I can force only the highest paying ad sizes and placeholders to display ads so that low-paying elements are never shown on the website.
August 2022
Ezoic Premium Fee: $0 (See July 2022 notes)
Average EPMV: $45.05 (-13.48%)

Notes for August:
- EPMV was the lowest it has been since joining the Ezoic Premium Program; however, an increase did happen in the last two days of the month. That’s a positive sign that EPMV may continue to go up during September.
- I had an Ezoic Publisher Success Manager look at my ad setup to see if there was anything that could be done to improve EPMV during August. After a full review of ad placements, ad sizes, user locations, technology frameworks, top landing pages, etc, it seemed like the lower EPMVs were due to the current recession in the economy and advertisers not spending as much in the third quarter of the year. The Ezoic Ad Revenue Index confirmed this analysis to be true.
- The highest EPMV was $69.96 on August 31, 2022.
- I worked with Ezoic to get 3 blog posts turned into videos using their Article to Video Creator tool. I’ll be placing these videos on the blog posts to see if it increases EPMV. If so, I’ll consider turning more blog posts into videos with that tool.
September 2022
Ezoic Premium Fee: $0 (See July 2022 notes)
Average EPMV: $53.72 (+19.24%)

Notes for September:
- EPMV increased at the beginning of September but then trended downward. Not sure why that happened.
- I had an Ezoic Publisher Success Manager look at the ad setup for mobile devices to see if there was anything that could be done to improve EPMV. Mobile EPMV was about 80% lower than desktop EMPV. After a review, additional placeholders were added to fill in the gaps that were missing on mobile devices. Hopefully, that will boost EPM for mobile devices.
- The highest EPMV was $75.10 on September 4, 2022.
October 2022
Ezoic Premium Fee: $0 (See July 2022 notes)
Average EPMV: $43.45 (-19.11%)

Notes for October:
- EPMV decreased quite a bit throughout the month. After reviewing Ezoic’s Big Data Analytics for the site, the average EPMV for the highest-earning countries (e.g., US and UK) dropped significantly, which seems to be the main reason for the decrease in overall EPMV.
- I mentioned the drop in EPMV to my Publisher Success Manager and she said the decrease matched up with a drop in the Ad Revenue Index.
- Other Ezoic publishers have been reporting increases in their EPMV throughout October, but I’m not sure what niche they are in.
- Perhaps the lower EPMV is a combination of my site’s niche and advertiser spending for this space. Hopefully, November experiences an increase in EPMV.
- The highest EPMV was $64.24 on October 5, 2022.
November 2022
Ezoic Premium Fee: $0 (See July 2022 notes)
Average EPMV: $33.79 (-22.23%)

Notes for November:
- EPMV dropped significantly throughout the month. After reviewing Ezoic’s Big Data Analytics for the site and comparing EPMV to last month, the average EPMV for almost every country is down.
- It seems the global recession is affecting advertiser spending in my industry.
- The highest EPMV was $42.88 on November 3, 2022.
- Compared to September 2022, the average EPMV is down -37%.
- Compared to October 2022, the average EPMV is down -22.23%.
December 2022
Ezoic Premium Fee: $0 (See July 2022 notes)
Average EPMV: $27.18 (-19.56%)

Notes for December:
- The global recession is definitely affecting advertiser spending in my industry based on the average EPMVs over the last quarter of the year. The Ezoic Ad Revenue Index indicates a global -20% decrease since October 2022/
- The average EPMV for the site has been dropping since September 2022 with an overall decrease of -49.40% for Q4.
- The highest EPMV was $36.58 on December 31, 2022.
- I contacted Ezoic Support to see if there was anything happening on the site that may also be causing a drop in EPMVs. After an audit, the Revenue Ops Team found a drop in impressions and ad RPM from certain ad partners. In response, the team increased the ad refresh rate a bit on December 27, 2022.
- Since December 28, 2022, EPMVs have been increasing. Hopefully, the ad refresh rate will help the average EPMVs continue to improve throughout January.
Monthly Performance Reports for 2021
October 2021
Average EPMV: $14.47

Notes for October:
- Joined Ezoic through the Access Now Program, which accepts websites with less than 10,000 monthly pageviews.
- Ads started to show on October 8, 2021.
November 2021
Average EPMV: $30.57 (+111.26%)

Notes for November:
- Experimented with various ad placement and optimization settings, such as adding a sticky sidebar ad and placing Native Ads and the end of blog posts.
December 2021
Average EPMV: $21.95 (-28.19%)

Notes for December:
- No changes were made with the Ezoic settings.
- Website traffic decreased throughout the month which attributes to the decrease in EPMV.
