Hey, it's Steven with SEO Chatter, and today we're going to talk about a blog post I wrote called
0:04
How Can You Improve Your Keyword Search Results? And I'll get straight to the point. If you're looking for a comprehensive guide
0:10
that can teach you how to boost your keyword rankings for any keyword that you want, then this video is going to help
0:17
We're going to walk through a 10-step plan that I outlined in the blog post that shows you how to increase the keyword rankings for a variety of keywords across your site so you can get more traffic to it
0:27
I'll also leave a link to this blog post in the description below so you can read it at your leisure
0:32
if you want to learn more and go more in detail with the things I'm talking about
0:37
But you will walk away from this video with actionable tips on how you can boost your keyword rankings
0:43
and improve those search results. So let's jump into it. Step one says yze your existing content
0:49
And what you're going to do here is open up your Google ytics and you're just going to look for the URLs that aren't getting as much traffic as you want
0:56
That's it. Make a list of those URLs. You want to increase your keyword rankings for, and then move on to step two
1:03
Now, what you want to do here is you want to choose the best keywords to improve for these URLs
1:08
And to do that, you're going to need Google Search Console. Hopefully you have that attached to your site
1:13
If not, do it now, and they'll take about 30 days for that data to come in
1:18
But what Google Search Console can do for you is it can show you what your existing keyword real estate is for each URL
1:25
And what you want to do here is you want to use Google Search Console to find out which keywords a URL ranks for that have a high number of impressions, but have a lower ranking position between 11 and 30
1:40
So what that's saying is, Google thinks you should rank for this keyword, but you just are missing a couple things to actually get on the page one, which shows the top 10 results
1:49
So what you want to do is use Google Search Console, and I explain in the blog post the exact way to do that to get that
1:55
information so check it out but once you find out what queries that are getting the high
2:01
impressions and lower search positions are for each URL I want you to write those down
2:07
and then move on to the next step so step three says you're gonna fix your on page
2:13
SEO so those keywords you just found what you want to do is you first want to go
2:18
into the URL open the page and see if you're even using those keywords on the page
2:22
because oftentimes you'll find out that you're not even using them. So Google thinks your content is about a certain keyword
2:29
but you're not using the keyword on the page. And if you just sprinkle that keyword in the page about three or four times
2:34
then usually that may be enough just to just boost the authority for that keyword
2:39
and you may start ranking on page one just by doing something that simple. So go ahead and just add those different keywords to the page three or four times
2:46
just the body content. And then what you also want to do is you actually want to look and see
2:51
if you can add those various keywords into the H2s and H3 headings on the page
2:57
And if you don't have a lot of those, or if there's only just a few of them, try to add more in where you can just to try to sprinkle those keywords in
3:04
My tip here is just pick the top two to three queries and make sure that those are in your H2s
3:09
or H3s or H3s and you can just do it once each or just once in the H3, it doesn't really matter
3:15
Now hopefully your H1 tag, which is the most important tag on the page
3:19
has your main keyword in it. And if it doesn't, then you need to put that in there now
3:23
Just put it at the very beginning because that is a good place to improve your on-page SEO
3:29
I have another video and I have another blog post I link to here that gives you more SEO H-1 best practices
3:35
because that's a very powerful spot and ranking signal area for Google
3:40
So check that out if you need some tips there. But another thing you can do there is any of those additional keywords you found through Google search console
3:48
If you can add any of those into the H1 tag as secondary keywords, then you want to do that as well
3:53
But just make sure that it's readable and natural. You don't just want to stuff it. But that can help boost the rankings and the search results for those keywords too
4:02
Now step four, you're going to expand your keyword search results. And so if you only did the first three steps, you're going to probably see some good rank boosts, hopefully, across the board
4:13
But you can go a step further by actually following step four and going through the rest of the list through step 10 So for this step you going to need an actual keyword research tool My favorite is KWFinder by Mangles It cheap It works well And I also like SCM Rush
4:27
But there's also H-Refs and free tools like Uber Suggest and even Google keyword planner that you can use for this step
4:35
But regardless of the tool you use, the process for researching is the same
4:39
You open up the keyword tool. You search for the URL's main
4:43
seed keyword, which is usually two or three, two or three words long. And then it's going to come
4:49
back with related keywords to that query. And then what you want to do is find those additional
4:55
keywords that are three, four, five words long, and you want to make a list of those. And then
5:00
just like in the last step, you want to add three to four instances of those keywords within the
5:05
body content, spread out evenly. And so you're just expanding the keyword reach there and adding
5:11
more keywords. And if you can, try to add some of those into the H-2s and H-3s, where it seems natural
5:17
So what you're doing in the last two steps is you're basically just broadening the reach for
5:21
your keywords, making sure that you're getting almost every variation for that keyword on the
5:26
page so that Google can definitely see that this page is about that type of content
5:31
Now, once you do that, that's only going to get you so far, because as I mentioned in step five
5:38
you know, SEO is only one part of the process. The other part of the process is you have to meet the user intent
5:44
You could have the best SEO optimized page in the world, but if it doesn't meet the user intent
5:49
it's not going to rank very well for very long because users aren't going to find it valuable
5:53
Google is going to sense that and start to demote it. And so how do you make sure you're meeting the search intent
5:59
Well, that's what step six and seven are going to do for you. So let's jump into those right now
6:04
So I have another post on my blog, and I did a video about the best SEO secrets for higher Google rankings
6:10
So try to check that one out when you get a chance. But I explain in secret number two how you can examine Google search results to find out ideas on how to write the best and most rankworthy content
6:20
And I'll just give you the quick details here, but there's a lot more steps and a lot more tips you can gain from that blog post
6:27
But what you want to do here is you basically just want to take your main keyword and you want to search and Google for it and then pull up the top five ranking competitors
6:36
Put those in new browser tabs. and then what you're going to do is basically yze each of those five sites
6:42
Take note of what topics they're covering in the H2s, H3s, and H4s, and just write that down for each five site
6:50
And then you're going to move on to the next step. Step 7 says, improve your content based on competitor research
6:57
So what you're going to do here is you have five lists in front of you. What you're probably going to notice is a similar pattern between those five sites
7:04
They're going to be covering similar topics in those H2s, H3s and H4s if they have them
7:10
And that's just the way it is. I mean, Google rewards certain types of content for certain keywords
7:14
and you're going to start to see patterns between those content. It's usually, you're usually not going to find some random, you know
7:20
10 pages ranking on the first page of Google. They're all similar in some way. And so what you want to do is just find out where the similarities are
7:27
Find out which H2s, H3s, and H4, are similar among two or more of those pages
7:33
And when you find one, circle it or write it down. And so essentially what you're going to do is
7:37
when you find the similarities, you're going to make sure that your content has that same information
7:43
on the page. So create that H2 if you don't have it, create that H3 if you don't have it, and write
7:48
content to support it. And then you're going to go one step further. You're going to look at all five
7:52
pages at the end and find the other headings that are important for the user to know when they see
7:59
your content. And you're going to put that on your page two. So in the end, here's what's going to
8:03
happen. You're going to basically consolidate all of the best information from the top five ranking
8:08
results onto your page. So now your page is the best of the best. And then it's just only a matter
8:14
of time before Google starts ranking you because your content is just amazing at that point
8:18
And it's serving the user and it's including all the right things that they want to see
8:23
And it's well optimized for the keywords you want to improve your search results for
8:29
So now before we jump on to the next tip which is tip eight I want to get to give you one more bonus tip here which is you also start to notice that there other patterns in these different pages And they going to be using keywords in specific spots
8:44
So if you yze these pages, you may find that every single competitor is using their
8:48
main keyword in the meta title a certain way. Or maybe they're using it in the URL a certain way or in the H1 a certain way, etc, etc
8:55
So just look at those different on-page elements to find out where they're using it
8:59
find the similarities, and make sure your page is doing the same so that you are, on par with these top ranking pages. And I have other videos on my site, on YouTube and blog posts
9:08
on my site that talk about all the different ways you can optimize a web page. So check those out
9:13
so that you can get more tips there. Now step eight says you want to do better internal linking
9:21
And this is a very undervalued SEO ranking strategy that you can use. And I'm surprised not more
9:27
people are talking about this or doing it themselves. But basically an internal lake is just
9:32
any page on your site that links to another page, and you can use keyword-rich anchor text for that
9:38
So, for example, let's say I wrote a blog post about, you know, the best SEO tools
9:43
Well, I can go to another page on my site and actually link to that page and use the keyword
9:47
best SEO tools. And I'm using an internal linking signal to this page saying, hey, this is what
9:52
it should be ranked for. And so Google crawls that stuff, and it pays attention to that stuff
9:57
And so there was a lot of case studies that back this up. The more and better
10:02
internal linking you do, the higher your search results can be for certain keywords. And the one I like
10:08
to point to is one done by Spencer Hawes of niche pursuits. And he says this after doing an internal
10:13
linking test. He had one keyword that was ranking 100 plus in Google, so barely even seen
10:20
that jumped to number one spot for a keyword. Just after adding five internal links
10:27
that's all it took to boost that site from the hundreds to number one. He also saw jump. He also saw
10:32
jumps like number 32 to 1, another one went from number 21 to 1, and another one went from
10:38
the 11th position up to the top spot in Google. So this stuff works, and there's other people
10:42
in the industry that have tested it and prove it, and I even do it myself. So how do you get the
10:47
most out of this tactic so you can see results and improvements in your keyword rankings
10:52
Well, it's a pretty simple method, and I explain it on the blog post, but here's the gist of it
10:57
Select three to four keywords you want a target URL to rank for. Then you want to go
11:02
and find pages on your site that can link to that page. And then you just want to start rotating
11:07
through those keywords as the anchor text pointing to the page. So you can start off with just five
11:13
Let's say five pages are going to link to one page. And then you just want to rotate. So the first
11:17
page will be the first keyword. The second page will be the second keyword and so forth. So if we
11:23
use the best SEO tools, for example, one page could link to this page that says best SEO tools
11:28
Another page, maybe I want this to rank for best SEO tools for beginners
11:34
So this second page, the anchor text will be best SEO tools for beginners and so forth
11:39
So at the end of this, you're going to have five links, and you'll have two of them repeated if you have three keywords
11:45
And then just wait. See what happens for two weeks. You may start to see a climb in your rankings
11:50
And if it's not going as high as you want, then try five more internal links
11:54
Do it again. Just rotate through those three keywords and point them to the page
11:58
And then eventually you should start to see a ranking boost. And then what you want to do is just try to find that sweet spot
12:04
in when you don't have to do it anymore. Now, some keywords, you may have to go to 10 links, 15, 20, 30
12:09
It just depends on how competitive that keyword is. But there's been some studies that show that it takes about three external links
12:17
I'm sorry, three internal links to match one external link from a high authority site
12:22
So you just got to kind of play around with that. But another tip you want to do here is you don't just want to use the same exact match
12:28
anchor over and over and over and over again. Once you use an exact match anchor, you know
12:33
three or four times, you want to start switching it up by adding additional words into that anchor
12:38
text, so it's not just exact. So if I did Best SSU Tools three times on three pages
12:44
linking to this page, the next time I might make the anchor text, best SEO tools list
12:50
And another one I might make My Best SCO Tools Guide So I just adding in extra words into that anchor text And so what that does is that just prevents me from over optimization Because if every single anchor text on your site
13:02
is just, you know, saying the same three over and over and over again, you know, you might get
13:07
devalued for that one day through Google. Now step nine, I talk about publish more SEO optimized
13:14
content. So now you have some strategies on how to optimize your content. And if you look at my blog
13:19
in other videos on my site, you'll learn even more tips. But if you just keep optimizing all of your URLs
13:26
for the keywords you want to rank for and expanding the keyword reach, and then you just keep doing that and writing more content
13:32
you're just going to have more opportunities to improve your search results. And you're also going to have more pages on your site
13:38
to link to other pages to do that internal linking trick. So just publish more SEO-optimized content
13:43
and make that a priority for your site. Now, step 10 says, improve your results
13:49
with off-page SEO. Now, on-page optimization is only going to get you so far
13:54
And in some keywords, you know, you're going to need some external signals through off-page
13:59
SEO to really boost those rankings. And so what you're doing there is you're just finding external sites that can link to your content
14:06
And you can use keyword-rich anchor text to kind of basically send a signal to Google that, hey
14:13
this is what it should be ranked for. So your webpage is optimized good for certain keywords
14:19
but once you get external sites saying the same thing, it just tells Google, hey, this is
14:24
definitely what it's about and we should rank it for it because the site owner says it should
14:29
be and even third parties are saying this is what it's about. So we're going to give it a little
14:33
bit more weight in the search results. And so to do that, there's lots of different ways I mentioned
14:38
on the blog post. You can write guest posts on other sites and then inside that guest post you
14:43
send a link back to your site with the keyword rich anchor text. You can be a guest on a podcast
14:49
So just get interviewed by somebody and they'll link to your site in the description. You can be featured in online publications
14:55
You can join community forums. You can even just contact relevant sites that maybe wrote on a topic your contents about and just say
15:04
hey, would you mind linking to it? I think it would be a valuable resource for your visitors
15:10
You can also host events, people link to those all the time. That's an easy way to get some free backlinks to a page, write press releases
15:18
You can even build your own many network of sites. This is popularly called PBNs or private blog network
15:26
I don't use them personally, but there have been people that use them successfully in the past
15:30
then they even use it today and say it still works. But essentially, you're just creating a little mini network of your own sites
15:35
where you can basically control all the content and link to any site you want at any point
15:42
And this is even used by big corporations and big brands. You know, there's a lot of news outlets
15:48
and media conglomerates that own lots of different publications, and they just link them all together, you know, and it works because it's powerful that way
15:56
And that's kind of like a public blog network, I would say
16:00
So it's something that can work if you want to put the time and energy into maintaining multiple sites
16:05
But then a really easy thing you can do, too, is just create linkable assets, create good infographics, maybe create a fax and statistics page, do videos like this one
16:14
write a really killer piece of content that just gets shared naturally, you know? you just want to create a piece of content that people are going to want to link to
16:21
Like I said, SEO is going to get you only so far, but the content has to be really linkworthy that people are going to want to naturally link to it
16:28
And so if there's any ways that you can basically get more links to your site
16:33
to those pages you want to rank higher, it will help send the signals to Google that it should do so
16:38
because backlinks are part of the algorithm. Now, those are the 10 steps
16:42
What I want to do is just still tell you that I've got a lot of other videos on my channel
16:46
that talk about on-page optimization, backlinking, how to write better content, et cetera
16:52
So I encourage you to check those videos out as well so you can really maximize your SEO game here
16:58
I really want to make sure that you're getting as much traffic as you can to your business and those videos can do that
17:03
