Hey guys, in this video I'm going to talk about a blog post I wrote recently called
0:03
How Important Are Blogs to SEO? And if you're a new company or a website that's thinking about writing a blog
0:10
and keeping one on your website, I really encourage you to do so
0:14
because there's many things that you can gain from doing that which I'm going to talk about in this video
0:20
So the blog post has all of the reasons of why you should start a blog and why that's going to be beneficial, but I'm just going to talk about a few of them here
0:26
so that you can get some actionable tips to actually use to improve your business right now
0:31
The first thing I want to talk about is that blogs increase your organic SEO volume
0:37
And what I mean by that is that the more blog posts you write, the more chances you have to gain customers and leads for your business
0:46
So if you have one blog post on your site, you're going to get X amount of traffic
0:50
But if you have 30 blog posts on your site, you're going to compound that number
0:55
to how many people can come and actually find your content and potentially become a customer or a lead for your business
1:02
So it's very important because you're basically, the more blog posts you write, the higher traffic that you're going to get to your site
1:08
So maybe if you have a new blog right now or a new site right now and you might be getting 100 visitors a month
1:13
if you start writing a blog, over time that may become 1,000 visitors per month
1:17
or even 10,000 visitors per month. Essentially it's unlimited. So it's really important to start a blog
1:23
so that you can capitalize on that organic growth. The next thing I want to talk about is that
1:29
blogs create fresh content that gets rewarded. And what I mean by that is that
1:35
whenever you write new blog content, you're basically telling Google, hey, I've got something new, come look at it
1:42
And so they come and recall your site. And if you can continue to keep doing that, you're showing Google that you're a valuable resource
1:48
for that topic and niche that you're in. And so it's going to start favoring you for that type of stuff
1:53
You know, compare that to a site that writes content and then, you know, doesn't do anything for a year
1:58
You know essentially that content becomes stale and it just like oh this isn a very updated site So they probably not the best source of information for this topic you know And so if you continue to write about things related to your niche you going to get that content that rewarded
2:13
And this is also a good example of this is that, as I write in the blog post
2:20
Google has this thing called query deserves freshness, part of its algorithm
2:24
where it wants to deliver content that's up-to-date and current for certain queries
2:28
A good example of this is wildfire season that happens in California every year
2:33
So, you know, when that happens, you know, a lot of articles are written about that
2:38
And so Google wants to surface that content because it's important. So if you type into Google, is there a wildfire near me
2:44
You know, it's going to want to produce, you know, like content that's, you know, for example, news
2:49
That's like, oh, where are the wildfires at right now? Now, imagine if Google had been, you know, surfacing content that was written two or three or four years ago
2:57
You know, that wouldn't be good for the user, would it? You know, because that stuff's outdated. and the wildfire may not even be in that area
3:03
And so when you're writing fresh content, you can actually jump on those current trend topics
3:09
so that you can get rewarded by having your content surfaced and get more traffic for your site
3:15
The next thing I want to talk about is that, you know, I kind of hinted on this was when you have a blog, you have unlimited SEO keyword opportunities
3:23
And what I mean by that is every new blog post you write, you can focus on a new set of keywords
3:28
And the more keywords you can focus on, the more traffic you can get to your site
3:34
So for example, my site, SEO Chatter, I'm constantly writing new content on different
3:40
sets of keywords and I'm expanding my reach and I'm expanding my reach and expanding my
3:44
reach with every blog post I write. So essentially, if I keep doing this over and over again every week, in three or four
3:50
years, I'm going to have hundreds of articles with thousands of opportunities to get people
3:55
to my site. And so it's essentially unlimited. And what you're gonna find out
4:02
like I say in the post, is that eConsultancy reports that a small percentage
4:08
of traffic comes from one to three word phrases And a vast majority of traffic around 70 comes from the long tail keywords And what that means is that you know if you write if you focusing on a keyword like
4:22
you know, I'll say like mine, SEO tips, you know, that's going to bring so much traffic
4:28
But if I start writing on longer tail keywords like SEO tips for beginners or, you know
4:33
SEO tips for a WordPress site, SEO tips for a Wix site, et cetera, et cetera
4:39
I'm going to find that I'm generating more traffic over time because I'm focused on a broader area of those keywords
4:48
And also what happens is when you focus on broader keywords like that, which are called the long tail
4:53
the conversion probability goes higher because people that are searching those longer phrases are looking for a specific answer in a specific set
5:02
So they're in a different frame of mind. So if you can target something like that for your site
5:06
you can essentially just have unlimited opportunities to get more sales and leads for your business
5:14
And the last thing I want to talk about is that blogs are important for internal SEO linking
5:20
And what I mean by that is that when you have a blog and you have pages on your site that you really want people to visit that make you money
5:29
what that can do is you can essentially use the blog content to kind of boost the authority of
5:36
those pages that make you money and the way you do that is through doing internal linking so for
5:41
example on this blog post you're going to find throughout as i as you read it that i'm linking
5:47
to other pieces of content on my site and the reason i'm doing that is because i really want
5:51
to send a signal to google that these other pieces of content on my site are also important
5:56
They're also valuable. So send a little bit of juice there. And an SEO scientist named Kyle Roof discovered that it takes about two to three internal links from other blog posts to one page to equal one backlink from an authority site
6:13
So a lot of people are always trying to find ways to create more backlinks to their site because that's a ranking factor
6:19
But if you can focus on the internal linking up front and let say for every one page you want to rank higher you can send three internal links to that page You can essentially earn yourself the equivalent of one backlink So if you
6:33
look at my site you're gonna see that I use internal linking all the time and so that's a really easy way that you can use a blog to have content in order to do
6:41
that. And just consider these points from search engine land that I put in the
6:47
blog post. Essentially, the more links a page receives, the more value Google will give it
6:52
So just like external links indicate an overall value with regard to other pages on the web
6:58
internal links help Google determine the importance of a page in regard to the other
7:02
pages on your website. And that's exactly what I was telling you about. So linking is a powerful way
7:08
to give basically an unparalleled boost to those pages that you want to rank higher in Google
7:14
them. And so another thing that's important here too is links from fresh content, new blog posts
7:22
create fresh value and therefore signal new content to Google, helping those new pages get
7:28
crawled. So when I hit publish on one of my new blog posts and then I've submitted in search console
7:34
I'm saying, Google, come look at it. Well, that's just saying, oh, there's a new blog post. But if
7:38
I then immediately create a bunch of internal links to that blog post, I'm artificially boosting its
7:43
importance. I'm saying, hey, Google, look, this thing is really important. Not only did I publish
7:47
it new, but I'm linking a lot to it. So I really think it's valuable and I think you should too
7:51
Now, I hope these tips were valuable to you. Like I said, I've got some more information on the blog
