Unique Pageviews Definition & Meaning

What Are Unique Pageviews?

Unique pageviews are metric in Google Analytics that reports the aggregate number of views a web page receives from separate users in a given time period. Unique pageviews are different than the total pageviews metric that reports how many views are generated without aggregating pageviews by the same user during the same session.

A single user could generate one unique pageview for a web page but multiple total pageviews if that person refreshes the page or visits it more than once.

Unique pageviews are often confused with user sessions. Unique pageviews refer to the time a user spends on a single web page regardless of the number of times they leave and come back to that same page. A session is an entire-time a user spends on a website, which can include multiple pageviews.
