Getting Easy Backlinks (1 of 2)

Today’s SEO tip is about getting backlinks.

Tomorrow’s will be too.

Which is a bit ironic for me to talk about because I stress the importance of on-page SEO.

And I teach you how to rank in Google’s top 10 without worrying about—or needing very many—backlinks in my Mastering On-Page SEO course.

However, I scored a few easy backlinks last week and wanted to share the strategies I used so you can copy them for your own benefit.

While dwindling in power, backlinks are still a Google ranking factor that can help you get to the top positions for highly competitive keywords, such as “car insurance” or “best air conditioners”.

So let’s get into today’s SEO backlinking tip.

How to Get Backlinks By Getting Featured On Expert Roundups In Your Niche

An expert roundup is a type of blog post that features contributions by multiple experts in a niche.

The host blogger provides an interesting topic for discussion and then reaches out to various experts to share their opinion.

And in a perfect world, a two-way exchange will happen:

The host blogger links out to each expert’s site while the experts link back to the roundup post.

In theory, this is a brilliant way to get a flood of backlinks just by stitching together a bunch of quotes.

But here’s what typically happens…

(I know this from experience because I’ve hosted several expert roundups before.)

Only a handful of experts actually reciprocate the goodwill by giving the host blogger a backlink to their site.

You may be lucky to get 1, 2, or even 3 of those experts to link back to the roundup.

Which is pitiful to say the least.

(People are greedy I tell ya!)

Now put yourself in the host blogger’s shoes for a second…

Your brilliant backlink strategy didn’t work out as planned.

How would you be feeling right now?

Disappointed, rejected, and annoyed, right?

Now imagine if you suddenly got an email from an expert who WASN’T featured in the roundup post.

And the email read like this:

“I found your roundup post on [Name of Topic] and I linked to it from my website here [page URL]. Are you open to adding one more expert to the post? I’d love to contribute and then share it on social media to help your business get more exposure.”

You’d be ecstatic with your heart pumping and jumping for joy!

That’s the EXACT type of person you were HOPING to get on your expert roundup post.

And you wouldn’t think twice about adding that person to the list and giving them a backlink to their site.

You win. They win.

This strategy works like crazy because you’re offering value up front by linking to the roundup post first.

You’re showing goodwill to the host blogger. And it’s only natural for that person to want to reciprocate your generosity.

Now you’re probably wondering how to find these expert roundups to participate in to get easy backlinks.

The answer is simple.

Just go to Google and type:

(In my case, I typed in “SEO roundup”.)

Then send an email like I gave you above to the host bloggers.

That’s all I did. And it worked.

But don’t forget about the power of on-page SEO.

Even 50 backlinks pointing to a poorly optimized page will be hard to rank. (Trust me. I’ve tried it.)

So you gotta know what you’re doing with on-page SEO to win big these days. It’s non-negotiable.

I show you how to do this in my new Mastering On-Page SEO course.
